Spain’s Online Gambling Revenue Reaches €410.3 Million in Q2

Significant Growth in Spain’s Online Gaming Sector

In a notable development, Spain’s online gaming revenue saw a marked increase, both compared to the previous quarter and the same time last year.

During the second quarter of 2025, revenue from online gambling surged by 18.5% year-on-year, reaching an impressive €410.3 million ($484.2 million). This growth was largely fueled by robust double-digit increases in both the casino and sports betting segments, as reported by the Directorate General for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ).

Over the three-month period ending in June, gross revenue outpaced not only the second quarter of 2024 but also exhibited a 2.8% rise compared to the first quarter of 2025. Total deposits in the online gambling sector climbed by 23.7%, totaling €1.35 billion, closely mirroring Q1 figures. Player withdrawals also experienced a significant uptick, soaring by 28.9% year-on-year to €962.9 million, remaining consistent with the previous quarter.

The DGOJ highlighted an 11.7% increase in new account registrations, totaling 504,853, although this figure marked an 11.6% decrease from Q1. Marketing expenditures also saw a substantial leap, up by 37.1% compared to last year, reaching €164.5 million, slightly surpassing the prior quarter’s spending.

The Dominance of Online Casinos

Diving deeper into the specifics, the online casino sector continued to reign supreme in Spain’s gaming landscape. In Q2, this segment generated €216.4 million, constituting 52.7% of the total market. This figure represents a 26% increase from 2024, propelled primarily by a 33.6% surge in slot machine revenue.

The sports betting sector also demonstrated substantial growth, with revenue climbing by 18.2% to €171.4 million, making up 41.8% of the overall revenue. This result is a 2.7% improvement over Q1 2025’s performance.

Conversely, online poker experienced a downturn, with revenue dropping by 25.2% year-on-year to €19.1 million, reflecting a similar decline of 25.1% from the previous quarter. Bingo, in turn, saw revenue of just over €3.4 million, which is down 6.4% from the previous year and 6.9% compared to Q1.

The DGOJ also mentioned that revenue from gambling activities categorized as “contests” was minimal, reporting only “very small figures” in terms of revenue and player expenditure.

As of the close of Q2, a total of 77 operators were licensed in Spain, with 64 maintaining at least one active license during the quarter. This included 52 engaging in online casino gaming, 42 in sports betting, nine in poker, four in bingo, and two in contest formats.
