Pennsylvania Gambling Revenue Boosted by iGaming and Betting in June

Pandemic Recovery Boosts Pennsylvania Gambling Revenue by 15.4% in June

In a notable upswing, Pennsylvania’s gambling revenue surged by 15.4% year-on-year in June, setting the stage for a promising future underpinned by robust growth in iGaming and sports betting.

The total gambling revenue for June reached an impressive $544.7 million, as reported by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB). This figure surpassed the $472 million reported in June 2024 but fell short of the $601.8 million recorded in May of this year.

While traditional retail slots continued to dominate as the primary revenue source, it was the digital sectors—iGaming and sports betting—that truly shined, showcasing double-digit revenue increases that underscore changing consumer preferences.

iGaming Revenue Surges Above $212 Million

Diving into the specifics of iGaming, revenue in this sector experienced a remarkable 32.3% increase, totaling $212.6 million. Breaking it down, online slots accounted for $162.2 million, while internet table games and online poker contributed $47.6 million and $2.7 million respectively.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, along with its online partners, led the charge, raking in $81 million—a 35.5% year-on-year growth.

Following closely, Valley Forge Casino Resort reported $59.3 million, marking a 56.5% increase, and Rivers Casino Philadelphia earned $35.2 million, up by 14.7% compared to the previous year.

Skyrocketing Sports Betting Revenue

In the realm of sports betting, revenue soared 71.4%, reaching $51.2 million. Out of this, online wagers accounted for $49.2 million, with retail sportsbooks contributing an additional $2 million.

The betting handle saw players wagering a total of $483.6 million, reflecting a 4.1% year-on-year increase. This included $460.3 million from online platforms and $23 million from physical venues across Pennsylvania.

FanDuel, in collaboration with Valley Forge Casino Resort, remained the frontrunner, generating $23.2 million from a handle of $164 million, leading to a 14.15% hold. DraftKings, allied with Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, followed suit, earning $14.2 million from a handle of $132 million.

Stabilization in Traditional Gambling Markets

Conversely, the land-based gambling segment faced a slight decline. Revenue from retail slots dipped by 0.9%, totaling $199.3 million, while table games saw a marginal increase of 1.6%, reaching $77.3 million for the month.

Notably, video gaming terminal revenue at truck stops decreased by 2.2% to $3.4 million, and fantasy sports revenue also fell modestly by 1.8%, amounting to $948,790.

As for tax contributions, state and local governments collected a total of $229.8 million in June. This revenue breakdown included $95.7 million from iGaming, $18.4 million from sports betting, $100.8 million from land-based slots, and $13 million from physical table games.

Pennsylvania’s gambling landscape appears to be adapting well in a post-pandemic world, with digital forms taking a leading role in driving overall revenue growth.
