Massachusetts Betting Handle and Revenue Reach Annual Low in June

Massachusetts’ Online Sports Betting: A Deep Dive into June’s Financial Landscape

In June, Massachusetts saw its online sports betting sector generate an impressive $61.6 million in revenue. Despite this substantial figure, the month marked a low point in both sports betting revenue and activity for 2025, although it did show notable growth compared to the previous year.

Overall, sports betting in the state brought in a combined revenue of over $62.1 million from both online and retail sources. This marks a 53.3% increase from the same month last year, yet falls short by 23.1% compared to May of this year. To put this in perspective, the state hasn’t recorded revenue levels this low since December, when figures were reported at $57.5 million.

June’s Financial Breakdown

According to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, online betting contributed $61.6 million, while retail betting amounted to $474,426. In terms of bets made, customers wagered a total of $532.7 million overall, a slight increase of 4.6% year-on-year but an 18.8% drop from May’s figures. This decline marks it as the weakest month since August 2024, resulting in a state hold of 11.66%.

DraftKings Dominates the Market

Encore Boston Harbor followed with $171,393 from $3.9 million, translating to a 4.42% hold. Finally, MGM Springfield reported earnings of $59,369 from a $$1 million handle, giving it a 5.72% hold.

Casino Revenue Continues to Thrive

Turning to land-based casino gaming, June revenue hit $97.7 million, with $68.4 million attributed to slot machines and $29.3 million to table games. Encore Boston Harbor led with $60.2 million, followed by MGM Springfield with $22.8 million and Plainridge Park Casino at $14.6 million.

On the taxation front, the state benefited from a total of $40.3 million collected from various gambling activities, which included $12.4 million from sports betting and $27.9 million from casino gaming.
