The United Arab Emirates Expands Gaming Landscape with New Licenses and Strategic Partnerships
In a significant move to enhance its gaming industry, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has granted new vendor licenses to EQL Games and Novomatic, while also forming a strategic alliance with Xpoint for geolocation services in their national lottery operations.
This development, authorized by the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), underscores the UAE’s commitment to establishing a well-regulated commercial gaming environment. The GCGRA, which was created in 2023, is focused on building a comprehensive regulatory framework for both national lotteries and commercial gaming activities. The authority’s initial steps included awarding the sole lottery license to The Game LLC and issuing its first land-based gaming license to Wynn Resorts, setting a precedent for future operators.
Novomatic, a prominent gaming technology company based in Austria, has been granted a commercial gaming vendor license to provide land-based gaming services within the UAE. In a statement, Novomatic expressed its eagerness to establish itself as a trustworthy partner for licensed operators, promising to deliver high-performance gaming solutions that meet the expectations of international players. Stefan Kreen, a member of Novomatic’s executive board, emphasized that their offerings are designed to ensure that gamers in the UAE enjoy a seamless experience equivalent to those in more established gaming markets.
In tandem with these licensing efforts, The Game LLC has enlisted Xpoint to serve as their geolocation services partner. This collaboration is pivotal as it ensures that the UAE lottery products are accessible exclusively within designated areas, adhering to local regulatory mandates. The use of Xpoint’s technology will enable the operator to enforce geolocation restrictions effectively, thereby reinforcing its commitment to regulatory compliance and data security. According to Bishop Woosley, the director of lottery operations at The Game LLC, this partnership guarantees that all sensitive data will remain within UAE borders, aligning with national data protection regulations.
EQL Games, a Kentucky-based company, was also awarded a license for gambling-related vendor services, signaling its intent to introduce innovative lottery-related gaming products to the UAE market. CEO Brad Cummings remarked that acquiring this license is a pivotal moment for the company as they strive to deliver secure and responsible lottery solutions globally.
As the UAE prepares for the launch of commercial land-based gambling, Wynn Resorts is making strides with its $5.10 billion integrated resort, Al Marjan Island. Following the completion of financing earlier this year, the project is well underway, with reports indicating that a significant portion of its primary structure has already been completed.
